EOG, What a shame!

Recently, I was called by a parent about her child and how he failed the NC end of grade tests. The child was devastated, and to make matters worse, he had to take it again! For many in this position, it is easy to see how the retake seems like a punishment to the child, not to mention hopeless. The child unfortunately failed the retake as well. He has ADHD and he has struggled with standardized testing since he was able to take the tests. To make matters worse, the child was told he rushed on…See More

Getting my child tuned in and paying attention

Attention is such a vague word. Often kids who struggle with it hear it about 500x a day! People in their life say to them, "pay attention", "focus", "listen", "are you listening?", "are you paying attention?". No one truly asks the child with attentional issues what it means to pay attention. No one asks them if they truly know what it feels like. Children who seem to be scattered but seriously smart are often those with attentional issues. Their brains focus on different things all at once…See More

Super Smart but Organizationally Challenged?

Is your child super smart but organizationally challenged? Maybe you don't consider him or her super smart, but they sure are savvy- but they just don't get as much back academically than they put in? Like a coffee strainer, most kids who work hard, get a robust experience out of school- however, children who have ADHD/ADD often seem smart but truly scattered- like a faucet running through a pasta strainer, they don't often have much to show for their efforts. Truly this is due to the fact that…See More
