A "Mom's Weekend"…Disguised as Kids' Birthday Party

I wanted to change things up this year…to mark my son's 7th birthday in a more unique- okay, I'll be honest- less stressful & more fulfilling way. For our son, being social and 7 means tons of friends and thus, attending lots of birthday adventures. He may not have had his fill of 'jumpy places', but I had. Plu… Continue

The Making of a Meteorologist - aka, "Weather Camp"

When I was 6,7,8 years old I was making mud pies, sifting through my mom's scarf drawer and building forts out of the sofa.

Now, I know these activities are still going on today ('cuz I have two fort-building-mud-pie-makers myself) but a whole new world of adventure has opened up since I was a kid.

After-school activities have taken on a life of their own and with the introduction of "year round school", camp is no longer an annual event, it's a daily one.

Laundry Strike!

I have ignored the laundry for two weeks.
This is what happened, one typical day, previous to my laundry strike:
For half an hour, I folded, folded and folded. Then…the straw that broke the camel's back: I had folded DIRTY laundry. (can you see me visibly deflate?)
I dislike (we've taught our kids to b… Continue

Hi Janice! Actually, it was Luray Caverns in Virginia. We went last October while visiting friends in the mountains. The boys really enjoyed it...if you are ever in that neck of the woods, it's worth the visit. :)

Janice~ thanks for your comment on the prev. blog...I am so happy that your family is enjoying a huge chunk of common adventure together. While I know you do it because it is your joy, you are one day going to reap massive rewards from all investments of your time and ambition. It requires a great deal of maturity and character to prioritize our children's needs above our own, but this is the only way to equip them for future healthy choices.

Anyone with discernment should easily recognize how you two cherish your kids. You enter into their world, rather than dragging them along into yours. I would like to believe that your example will impart the same to bystanding families when your family is out and about. BRAVO!
