Why did you start Triangle TRACKS?

Tools, Resources and Activities for Carolina Kids

The idea to create Triangle TRACKS came to me in January 2008, as I contemplated how to entertain my three children during their winter track-out break, which came on the heels of a nearly two-week Christmas break. My kids attend year-round school and have three-week breaks after completing each academic quarter, so we look for fun things to do during these breaks throughout the year.

As I thought about places we could go and things we could do, I found myself wishing there was ONE website that consolidated ALL of the local resources for children in the Triangle, so I could visit it daily to find fun events and activities for children.

Then it hit me... I could create this site myself! I came up with the name, then got to work researching various categories, such as camps, schools, museums, parks, birthday party venues and youth sports leagues. As I searched for resources within those categories, I stumbled upon new categories I had not yet thought of, like clubs, trends, family restaurants, children's photographers, hiking trails and more. Even now, I add new links under the various Triangle TRACKS categories nearly every week. There's so much here for children to do and experience! We truly live in an amazing place.

I launched Triangle TRACKS in April 2008 and maintain it as a hobby. I spend the rest of my spare time freelance writing and editing, and
volunteering at my children's schools. For several years I worked from home as a local magazine editor, but in November 2008 I decided to return to freelancing to enable more flexible hours so I could spend more time with my family.

I hope you find Triangle TRACKS useful. Consider subscribing to my free, monthly newsletter and joining the Triangle TRACKS social network so you can promote local children's resources you come across via your personal Triangle TRACKS blog, forum posts and the Triangle TRACKS calendar (one of the most popular sections of the site to date). My mission is simple: to consolidate the thousands of children's resources available in this region, thereby simplifying and improving life for you and your children.

In the future, I plan to launch TRACKS sites for other North and South Carolina cities, with Charlotte TRACKS hitting the web this spring!

Please send your feedback and comments about Triangle TRACKS to me at epshugg@triangletracks.com. I'd love to hear what you think about the site. See your around the TRACKS!
