N.C. Accountability and Curriculum Reform Effort Proposes Changes to High School History Curriculum

Changes to North Carolina's history curriculum proposed by the state's
Accountability and Curriculum Reform Effort (ACRE) would eliminate
teaching American history prior to 1877 to high school students. The
department says American history prior to 1877 will still be taught in
the elementary and middle school grades, but would no longer be studied
in its entirely in 11th grade.

The News & Observer is reporting that N.C. State University history professor Holly Brewer, who opposes
this proposal, has started a Facebook page called "History Did Not
Begin in 1877!"
