Hey moms! Is anyone planning on going to see "Annie" this summer? Saw it 2 years ago & it was amazing! Check out my "Save The Drama For Your Mama" Annie story here... http://www.triangletracks.com/profiles/blogs/save-the-drama-for-your-mama

I homeschool so that made a big difference. I just don't deal with such frustration.

He's actually not getting much homework this year either. I was shocked and now I'm nervous that next year will hit him like a ton of bricks. My hubbie and I have told him many many times that next year and the years thereafter will be very different. When you get older you have to read in order to learn the subject. No more reading comic books but he'll be reading Chemistry books :)
Thanks for the words of encouragement. Perhaps he is indeed bored and I will have to address that with his teacher.

Kelly, you are definitely not alone. I have two sons and a daughter. My oldest is in 7th, younger son is in 5th and my daughter is in 2nd. When my oldest was in 5th he had a teacher who did not give him much homework and hardly any tests. This was not good prep for middle school. My younger son is getting more homework and tests as a 5th grader this year with his teacher, so I feel he will be better prepared for middle school. The thing you can tell your 5th grader is the expectations and homework load goes up exponentially in middle school next year. If he thinks he has it tough this year, let him know he is in for it next year. The homework, projects and tests this year are meant to prepare him for that, so if he can get accustomed to it this year, next year will be an easier adjustment for him.

The laziness may also be from boredom. If he's a smart kid he may not be getting enough academic stimulation. You may need to conference with the teacher to see if there is some differentiation she can offer him. Those are just some ideas. Good luck and let us know how it all turns out.

I look at it this way. My son loves video games. Looks like a career in computer animation or programming from him. I am going to sign him up for every computer class/camp I can find. This may be just the beginning of his future. Noting wrong getting a headstart. LOL Oh, and you are definitely not alone!

My oldest son is in 5th grade and enjoys school very much. He is doing well this year and I'm very proud of him but I'm seeing sign of laziness and procrastination in him. It's very frustrating. He's smart but always gives me a hard time when it's time to read or work on a project. He would rather watch TV or play video games...big surprise! Anyone else have these challenges? How do you deal? I try my hardest not to loose my temper but sometimes it's just too much.
