Event Description

SWAP-O-RAMA-RAMA is coming to Raleigh!
Saturday, September 5th from 11:00 am to 4: 00 pm. @ Marbles Kids Museum in the Zanzibar Room, 201 East Hargett Street. Suggested donation of $10.00 and kids are totally free, and don’t forget to bring any size bag of your unwanted clothes.
Produced by : The Scrap Exchange (www.scrapexchange.org)

This is the seventh Swap-O Rama Rama the Scrap Exchange has produced, and the first one in Raleigh. Participants are invited to bring unwanted clothing and accessories, and the core of the swap is the gigantic piles of free clothing sorted into categories: pants, shirts, skirts, sweaters etc. These piles are the collective total of each participant’s contribution of one bag of unwanted clothes. Take home as much clothing as you can carry. Remainders go to Retails Thrift Store in Raleigh.
The event also features a DJ; spinning tunes throughout the day, a raffle ; everyone gets a raffle ticket and a chance to win everything from a sewing machine to Carolina Rollergirl tickets. The Scrap Exchange will also provide DIY stations including five brand new sewing machines provided by SINGER in which participants can use to make their own creations. Designers will be on hand to help you rip clothing apart and put it back together. We will also have a paint and stencil table to alter clothing.

The Swap-O-Rama Rama is designed to promote “Creativity over consumerism”, a giant clothing swap and series of do-it-yourself workshops in which a community explores reuse and creativity through the recycling of used clothing.
It's easy to make the move from consumer to creator - and it's fun. This is a great way to clean out your closet, make room for some new (to you) clothes, meet new people, and be creative. Bring your friends and plan on spending the day!

The Scrap Exchange is the only reuse center in North Carolina devoted to collecting industrial discards for creative reuse. In addition to its retail store, the center houses a workshop and birthday party room, art gallery and marketplace. The Scrap Exchange's operations also include a hands-on traveling arts program that participates in more than 300 fairs, festivals, and workshops across the Southeast each year. Store hours: M-F 11-5, Thursday 11-6, Sat. 10-5, Sunday 12-5. www.scrapexchange.org, 548 Foster Street, Durham, NC .
